HURLING FOR HOSPICE AT SCALLOP DAYS

6 August 2023

Hurling for Hospice will be held at Scallop Days in Digby on Saturday, Aug. 12, and Sunday, Aug. 13, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. For $5, an individual can be part of a multi-person team to launch a projectile from a reproduction of a 12th-century traction trebuchet, a type of catapult used by knights in battle. The design of the trebuchet allows it to launch projectiles of greater weights and further distances than that of a traditional catapult. The fundraiser is being organized by the Acadia Commandery of the Order of Saint Lazarus. All proceeds will be matched by the Order of Saint Lazarus.

“Sir” David Cvet and trusted knights and squires will be on hand to explain how to use the trebuchet and to provide appropriate projectiles to hurl into the Bay of Fundy. Digby-Annapolis MLA Jill Balser will make the first hurl on Saturday at 11 a.m.
