AHS and MacLeod Group Health Services are discussing the possibility of co-locating a proposed new long-term care facility with the new residential-style hospice planned for Cornwallis Park.
As part of the working relationship being discussed, MacLeod Group would develop a long-term care facility that will integrate with the state-of-the-art Fundy Hospice through the sharing of operational resources and staffing. Fundy Hospice would start as the currently proposed five-bed facility, with the ability to expand by another five beds as future demand warrants.
Hospice services would be free to the almost 40,000 people who live in Annapolis and Digby counties.
MacLeod Group has recently made a submission to the province’s Department of Health and Wellness and Department of Seniors and Long-term Care and is awaiting formal feedback on the joint initiative.
Subject to AHS and MacLeod Group receiving the necessary provincial approvals and entering into formal service and funding agreements, we hope to have construction of our respective new facilities (LTC facility and Fundy Hospice) underway in 2024.
What are the benefits of co-locating these facilities?
Many details need to be worked out over the next several weeks, but we are excited about the potential benefits of this partnership.
